Professor Hugh Dawkins

Professor Hugh Dawkins, PhD, GAICD

Professor, School of Medicine, The University of Notre Dame Australia; and A/Professor, Division of Genetics, School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Western Australia. Hugh serves on the Mappa Steering committee a key program of the Aboriginal Health Council of WA to deliver care closer to home across regional and remote WA and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Hugh’s previous appointments include Chief Health Advisor of HBF in 2018; where he also served as a Director of HBF Wellness Holdings and HBF Pharmacy.

As Director of the Office of Population Health Genomics for the Department of Health Government of Western Australia, Hugh led the development of strategies for translation of new knowledge, genomic technology and screening; and the provision of strategic and operational advice for the WA Department of Health, for the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council and the Standing Committee on Screening.
Hugh was instrumental in developing policy and leading national and international rare disease strategies, a national framework for newborn bloodspot screening; and a whole-of-government National Genomics Policy Framework.

He played a lead role in developing the concepts of Precision Public Health, nationally and internationally, and the translation of new knowledge to transform public health services.
Hugh has over 140 international peer-review publications and textbook chapters.
