St Lukes, Honeysuckle Health and Cardihab partner to enhance cardiac rehabilitation access in Tasmania

St Lukes, Honeysuckle Health and Cardihab partner to enhance cardiac rehabilitation access in Tasmania

Our team at Cardihab is absolutely thrilled to join St Lukes mission to make Tasmania the healthiest island on the planet.

Tasmanian not-for-profit health insurer St Lukes, in collaboration with Honeysuckle Health and digital health provider Cardihab, is expanding access to cardiac rehabilitation through clinically validated, home-based digital programs.

This innovative partnership reinforces St Lukes’ commitment to delivering better health outcomes for its members, as part of its vision to make Tasmania the healthiest island on the planet.

Cardiac rehabilitation plays a vital role in improving recovery and long-term outcomes after a cardiac event, yet many patients face barriers to participation due to distance, time constraints, or health limitations. By offering access to Cardihab’s digital cardiac rehabilitation program, in conjunction with personalised telehealth support from experienced Honeysuckle Health clinicians, members can now complete rehab from the comfort of home with the support of their care team.

St Lukes Chief Health Officer Luke Cameron said around 1,300 Tasmanians die from cardiovascular disease each year, and the state has a 13 per cent higher prevalence of heart disease than the national average.

“Heart-related issues are the biggest claim area for St Lukes each year, so we see an urgent need for more preventative cardiac health measures,” he said.

“There’s a brilliant public rehabilitation program, but the waitlist is long – it’s estimated less than 30 per cent of patients who could benefit from cardiac rehab actually go on to participate in a program.

“Without rehab, the risk of experiencing another cardiac event is far too high. That’s why we’ve launched our own Cardiac Rehabilitation Pilot Program.

“It doesn’t matter where in Tasmania a member is, this easy and engaging tech means you can access the program, better understand your heart condition, and adjust to your diagnosis.”

"We are delighted to partner with St Lukes Health and Cardihab to expand access to vital cardiac rehabilitation for their members across Tasmania," says Honeysuckle Health COO, Misael Valdes Triana. "Our clinical team is looking forward to delivering personalised telehealth care via the Cardihab program, supporting members on their recovery journey after a cardiac event. Together, we are committed to helping more people achieve better health outcomes."

Cardihab CEO Helen Souris said, “We are delighted to partner with St Lukes and Honeysuckle Health to improve access to our digital rehabilitation programs. Together, we can support more Tasmanians in their recovery journey and improve long-term heart health outcomes.”

This initiative aligns with St Lukes ongoing commitment to innovation in healthcare and to supporting members with solutions that meet their individual needs, no matter their location.

Given how prevalent heart disease is for people in Tasmania, we are especially looking forward to the impact we can achieve together with Honeysuckle Health, in delivering preventative care through digital cardiac rehabilitation.
