Medibank Heart Health @ Home Results Aired on Channel 9
Nine News has just spotlighted Medibank’s Heart Health at Home program, and the results are nothing short of transformative. Delivered by Amplar Health and powered by Cardihab – Australia’s first and only TGA registered digital therapeutic for cardiac rehabilitation.
The personal story of 81 year old Chris Seers provided an insight into the important difference that being able to do the program from home, and at his own paces was to his smooth recovery after his quintuple bypass.
The heart health at home program delivers a Medibank branded version of Cardihab’s digital therapeutic, via specialist nurses from Amplar Health. The nurses provide personalised one on one support to ensure the participant is on track with their recovery journey Through the app, participants like Chris have access to a personalized care plan, daily activities and medication reminders and on demand articles and videos that support heart health and lifestyle changes. This is a contrast to conventional models of cardiac rehabilitation that are typically run in group settings in a clinical or gym.
Dr Andrew Wilson - Group Chief Medical Officer at Medibank, commented on recently published results of a study by the Baker Institute, that reported a 71% reduction in hospital bed days for people who participated in the Heart health at home program.
"The patients were eating better they were exercising more they were less depressed less anxious so their quality of life is better" he said.
Hospital bed shortages is a key issue facing our healthcare system across Australia. This study points to the profound impact that could be possible, if access to Cardihab's digital therapeutic is granted to those who need it.
While the heart health at home program is only available to Medibank members, Dr Wilson urged for essential funding necessary to enable the program to reach people in the public healthcare system as well.
