New Research Confirms Cardihab participants lived longer, healthier lives and with better value healthcare vs usual care

Cardihab’s digitally enabled cardiac rehabilitation (DeCR) program has been shown to cost effectively improve survival and quality of life, for patients with coronary heart disease, according to a new health economics analysis published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology (EJPC).

The independent evaluation was conducted by The Baker Institute, and analysed data from Medibank participants that accessed Cardihab’s digital therapeutic for cardiac rehabilitation. This study adds to the growing body of evidence that digital models of care can deliver not only clinically meaningful outcomes, but also economic value to health systems. Furthermore, the lead author of the publication Justin Braver, won a prestigious award at European Society of Cardiology in Madrid for Young Investigator Award for this research.

Key Findings from the EJPC Publication1

These findings reinforce the program’s potential to support patients in achieving longer and healthier lives, while also representing better value for health services and funders.

Cardiac Rehab is one of the few post MI/post procedure strategies that tackles multiple risk factors at once (exercise, diet, medication adherence, mental health), so its health gains are broad, rather than targeting a single disease mechanism.

“This study reinforces the potential for validated digital therapeutics to deliver meaningful and real health outcomes and economic value for patients, clinicians, and the health system.” - Helen Souris Cardihab CEO

Complementary Outcomes Evidence

This study follows the recent European Heart Journal publication evaluating Medibank’s Heart Health at Home program, delivered by Amplar Health using Cardihab’s platform, which demonstrated results including:

Together, these studies provide world-class evidence that Cardihab’s digital therapeutic platform can deliver clinically effective outcomes, while reducing the economic burden associated with coronary heart disease.

Opportunities for Health Services and Funders

As we continue to see significant gaps in access to cardiac rehabilitation across Australia whereby 80% miss out, preventable readmissions, persistent bed day challenges, the findings of these studies highlight the role Cardihab can play in solving these problems:
