MedTech on the Hill - Parliament House in Canberra

We are incredibly fortunate to live in a democracy that enables us to directly engage in meaningful conversations with members of Parliament at all levels, and with the dedicated staffers who support them—many of whom share a deep passion for ensuring Australians continue to have access to life-changing and life-saving digital health and medical device technologies.

MedTech on the Hill 2025 is the Medical Technology Association of Australia’s flagship advocacy event, held at Parliament House in Canberra from 27–28 August 2025. It’s designed to bring the MedTech sector face-to-face with federal policymakers, creating a high-impact platform to champion innovation, access, and policy reform.

The program included

  1. Parliamentary Doorknock (Aug 27)
  2. One-on-one meetings between MedTech leaders and Members of Parliament to discuss critical industry issues—from regulatory reform to funding pathways.
  3. MedTech Showcase & Networking (Aug 27 Evening)
  4. Held in Mural Hall, this immersive event features hands-on demos from startups and global leaders, a curated patient journey, and a powerful panel on lived experience. This year’s theme is digital health, spotlighting technologies that are reshaping care delivery and access across Australia.
  5. Industry Roundtable (Aug 28)
  6. A full-day strategic dialogue with representatives from the Department of Health and other key agencies, focused on aligning policy with innovation and patient outcomes.

MedTech on the Hill is more than a showcase—it’s a strategic moment to influence national health policy, elevate sector priorities, and ensure that digital health and medical technologies are embedded in Australia’s future healthcare landscape.

With sincere thanks to the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA), the hashtag#MedTechOnTheHill25 event enabled a number of MedTech companies to have the opportunity to meet with the hon Ed Husic MP, Senator Kerrynne Liddle, Dr Monique Ryan MP, Minister Sam Rae MP, Representative of Tim Ayres, Representative of Matt Thistlethwaite , and Jerome Laxale MP. I was able to share insights on how Cardihab is making a tangible difference in helping Australians recover from cardiac events—and joined others in my group to champion a brighter, more connected future for digital health and MedTech innovation across the country. We were also fortunate to hear inspiring personal patient experiences, including a cardiac event survival journey from Stuart Slater.

A special lunch with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, The Hon Milton Dick MP, where he shared his passion for the role he serves as the Speaker, and his vision for elevating community understanding and appreciation of our democracy was a highlight.

And finally, an excellent full day program of speakers including updates from Tracey Duffy from the Therapeutic Goods Administration , Penny Shakespeare, Avi Rebera with insights on productivity and synergy as strategic priorities, Natasha Ploenges , Pru Glasson regarding National Health and Medical Research Strategy and MRFF, The Digital Health Blueprint and Action Plan, Jen Zacny... to name a few.

As a MTAA member company, it is wonderful to have the opportunity to work with MTAA on program such as this.
