Launching the GMHBA Healthier Heart Program in Geelong

Launching the GMHBA Healthier Heart Program in Geelong

We were thrilled to speak at a fantastic breakfast hosted by St John of God Geelong Hospital, to mark the launch of the Healthier Heart at GMHBA program — an exciting new partnership between GMHBA and Cardihab

The event was well attended by local clinicians, hospital representatives, and GMHBA team members, all keen to learn more about how this new initiative will transform cardiac rehabilitation and aftercare for people in the region that have experienced a cardiac event or procedure.

A new model of care

The Healthier Heart program offers Cardihab’s virtual, evidence-based cardiac rehabilitation program to GMHBA members who have experienced a heart event. Delivered through the Cardihab digital therapeutic platform and apps, the program combines:

This approach not only supports recovery after a heart event but also promotes healthier living to help prevent future hospitalisations.

Increasing access for regional and rural communities

Cardiac rehabilitation is proven to reduce hospital readmissions and improve quality of life, yet participation rates in Australia remain low. Barriers such as distance, time pressures, and limited capacity and wait lists for hospital-based programs mean most people miss out.

By offering a flexible, digital solution, the Healthier Heart program aims to break down these barriers, making it easier for people in Geelong and surrounding regional communities to access world-class care.

Looking ahead

The launch event showcased the high level of interest among clinicians and the broader health community. Attendees were keen to see how this program can help bridge current gaps in care and deliver lasting benefits for patients.

We extend our thanks to everyone who joined us, both in person and online, to celebrate this milestone. And a special thank you to GMHBA and St John of God Geelong Hospital for their vision and commitment to improving heart health.
